January 7th, 2009

Installing Windows XP for any USB Drive:

Download your 32-bit copy of Windows 7 from here.

Required:
4GB or more USB Thumbdrive
Winrar

Steps.
Back up the contents of your USB drive, Then goto My Computer on an XP running machine and right-click on your thumb-drive. Select Format, now format your Thumb Drive with the NTFS option selected.

Now use WinRar to extract the contents of the Windows 7 ISO image you downloaded to your thumbdrive. Not a folder in your thumbdrive but instead all the contents of the Windows 7 Image directly to the root of you hard drive. for example "Setup.exe" would be one of the files listed in the root also known as the main directory of your thumbdrive.
Now go to Start-Run and type CMD and hit enter. (Again on the XP running maching)
Type in "F:" (note if your Thumb-drive is E,D,Z ect, replace F with whichever letter your thumbdrive is.)
Type in "CD boot"
then type "bootsect /nt60 F:' again, you need to make sure you replace 'F:' with the drive of your thumb drive.
It might say it was unable to lock the volume, this doesnt matter. Then it should let you know it was succesful.
Now close your Command Window.

Now pop in your USB Stick into your Acer Aspire One and Boot up your Acer Aspire One! Whle its rebooting tap F12 to select your thumb drive. Just Make sure in the bios setup (F2 while rebooting) that your memory stick is not set to be the 1st bootable drive else it will complete the 11st section of the install, reboot and then start the 1st part of the installation over and over. Windows 7 should have all the drivers pre-installed for you.

Good Luck!
